The Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation is located in southeastern Connecticut and, along the Schaghticoke, are trying to regain federal recognition through the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs. Federal recognition was revoked in October, 2005 following legal challenges by the State of Connecticut. Recognition had been originally granted in 2002 after a merging of two groups, the Paucatuck Eastern Pequots and the Eastern Pequots, into the Eastern Pequot Tribal Nation by the BIA.
