putative ensign
The Royal British Virgin Islands Yacht Club flies the BVI red
ensign as their yacht ensign along with a burgee. I have just
finished reading the history portion of their website. It's
really long, but doesn't say that much. It does say that Queen
Elizabeth issued the club a Royal Warrant and that it was the
first one issued in 20 years, but it doesn't say when that
happened exactly. Here is also what an ensign might look like, if
they had one.

The distinctive element, the white thing that looks like an
"m" with crossed legs, is the astrological/astronomical
sign for the constellation Virgo, making this a canting flag (or
a canting emblem on a flag).

"known locally as the “Loyal” club, was formed in
1978 by a group of sailors in Sopers Hole, West End, Tortola.
Feeling a need to add legitimacy to their races and serious
parties they joined together and asked Walter and Inez Hyman of
locally owned Walters’s Superete if they could meet there.
It was here that The West End Yacht Club elected Morgan Sanger
(Margaret Sanger’s grandson) as their first Commodore and
took steps to register themselves as an official Yacht Cub."
