The present flag of the society was designed by Ole Bjerring in the early 1980's following protests from the Flag Institute that the prior one too closely resembled their flag. The flag was designed after the old Nordic Union flag, which was yellow with a red Scandinavian cross. The Nordic Union flag was born in the funeral procession for Queen Phillippa in 1430. The current cross carries flag lines with the vexillological knot in the center of the flag.
The first flag was designed by the late Dr. Jur Atle Grahl-Madsen of Bergen,
Norway.
