The Balboa Yacht Club (BYC) is based in Corona Del Mar, California. It was founded in 1922 as the Southland Sailing Club and soon renamed the Balboa Yacht Club, after the sandy Balboa Peninsula. The burgee of BYC is horizontally divided
black-orange-black-orange-black with a white star in the middle.

The Briny Bunch, a group of BYC members who sail and race Naples Sabots (a dinghy designed by two inhabitants of the Naples district in Long Beach), have a special burgee on which the star is replaced by a white sabot charged with the red writing BYC / BRINY BUNCH. "briny" means "brackish" and seem to be often used colloquially for "the sea"; there might be in "briny bunch" a pun beyond my poor nautical and linguistic knowledge.
