Until not too many years ago, the Library of Congress flag - pale blue with the Library's seal outlined in white - flew alongside the S&S in front of the Adams and Madison buildings. The seal is an art deco, 1930s style variation on the U.S. coat of arms.

This flag used to fly on one of the two poles in front of the library's James Madison Building until it was replaced some time back by a second S&S.

A reference specialist at the Library of Congress confirmed that the flag still uses its agency flag. S/He added "The flag is blue and white only; no black at all. I took a Pantone Process Color swatch book on my visit to the
office that displays this flag. To my eye, the blue color appears to be about DS234-5 C. In CMYK terms, this is C50, M0, Y0, and K15. I do not have the information about the date of the flag's first use. I would not be surprised if this detail has been lost to history."
