This is what the Governor's flag perhaps looked like prior to 1963.
I phoned the Kansas Governor's office yesterday and spoke with a long time office representative. To nutshell the conversation, I was interested to know if [this design of a former flag] served as the Governor's flag prior to 1963. He
then surprisingly commented that there never has been a Kansas Governor's flag of any kind. I mentioned to him that we showed a "current" version in our Kansas pages and if he was correct, that it must be erroneous.

I have finally run out of leads and ideas. I have spoken with the Kansas Governor's office, the Kansas Historical Society, and the Kansas Secretary of State's office. None of them know anything about a Kansas Governor's flag. The
Historical Society even did a couple of days research on our behalf and came up completely empty handed where the Governor's flag is concerned. So for now, I am going to assume the Kansas Governor's flag image we have posted to be erroneous unless someone knows something that no one in Kansas knows.

It turns out that there is a Governor's flag and it's the one posted above. The Adjutant General's office has it and uses it any time the Governor visits them or is involved in a military-related get-together. With that said, the flag
is unofficial and is only used by the AG's office for the afore mentioned reasons. It has no particular documentation. Apparently, the Adjutant General serving in the mid-70's decided it would be a nice gesture and began using the flag on his own. The tradition caught on and the flag is still in use. The AG's office just recently "refreshed" the flag by procuring a new Kansas state flag and affixing the stars themselves.
And last but not least, there's an initiative by the AG's office that would bring about an official Governor's flag. They are proposing basically the Sunflower banner with 4 stars in each corner. Apparently, that same flag was used as a Governor's flag prior to 1963. I think it's status was similar to the current flag.
