A flag intended to represent all Franco-American people [1] combines the US
and French symbols: the field is divided by a red ascending diagonal stripe into
a blue portion above, charged with a white star, and a white portion below,
changed with a blue fleur-de-lys, modelled after those from the flag of Quebec.
The flag was allegedly created in early 1990s [2]: it is said to have been
presented to Édith Butler, a Franco-Canadian (Acadian) singer-songwriter, by
some Franco-American fans from the New York state and she first displayed it at
her concert in Manchester, New Hampshire on 1992-06-24. However, more recent
research [3] could not confirm that story, which seems to have first appeared in
a discussion of the Wikimedia Commons users; actually, the
people who
presented the flag to Ms Butler are said to have been from New York, New
Hampshire, Vermont, and Massachusetts, which suggests that the presented flag
might actually have been the flag of New England
Franco-Americans and that this flag may have been created as a proposal at
Wikimedia Commons as late as in 2010 [4]. Regardless of that, the design did
catch on somewhat, being offered for sale by many online shops and used as a
Franco-American flag online [5], but sometimes also offline [3].
