The flag of Sullivan County was adopted by the Board of Commissioners on February 15, 1988. It was designed by David Gladson of Kingsport, an eighth-grade student at Lynn View Middle School.
The Sullivan County Flag features a blue union and a field of three bars of red, white, and red, reminiscent of the original national flag of the Confederate States. The union, however extends down the entire width of the flag, and is separated from the bars by a serrated edge. Centered on the union is a representation of the Great Seal of Sullivan County.
The flag is unusual in that is has addition devices added to the flag end. On each bar is a disc or circle. White on the red bars and red on the white one. Superimposed over the discs are, from top to bottom, a school, representing learning; the outline of a factory, representing industry; and an ear of corn, representing agriculture.
