After a student had admired the flag of Franklin, in October 2024 the city of Titusville and the Titusville Area School District started a flag contest open to local students from kindergarten to the 5th grade. More than 180 designs were received, but 30 designs with copies of the flag of Canada or the USA were omitted. From the remaining 150 entries, 6 favorites were chosen and ranked by Mayor John Frye and members of the city council. The highest ranking flag was designed by Max Prugh and on November 6 was unanimously adopted, after 228 years, as the first flag of Titusville. The colors of the flag are brown and gold, which are the colors of the school district. At the center is a white banner with the names of the city and state; above is a gushing oil well and below is text stating “Est. 1796 Birthplace of the Oil Industry.â€
