The borough flag story:
"In 1976 the Borough's official flag was adopted by Council. The Flag design was created by Tammi Temple when she was in the seventh grade at the Monaca Jr. High School which is now C. J. Mangin Elementry." - from the borough

The flag was adopted by the council on March 8, 1976. The flag depicts red,
white, and blue stripes. Centered is Chief Monacatootha, the borough's namesake.
Surrounding him is 13 stars. "MONACA", "PENNSYLVANIA", "1840", and
"MONACATOOTHA" are also words on the flag. Obviously, the colors are a reference
to the national colors and the 13 stars for the Thirteen Colonies.
The
design was adopted as part of a contest sponsored by the borough's Bicentennial
Committee. 125 entries were received in this contest.
