Field: The green bar signifies the land that was farmed so heavily in the early years of Long Beach and is now used in various ways to the betterment of life in our city. The white stripe represents the beach from which the city draws its name. The lower blue bar represents the Mississippi Sound, a source of recreation and livelihood for many of the people of Long Beach.

Center Design: The upper half of the circular design contains the stylized image of the Friendship Oak, the beach, blue water and sailboat with sails striped in school colors, which are all meant to represent the physical setting of our city. The lower half of the circular design contains a representation of Long Beach Long Reds, the radish that our City was famous for and was instrumental in the early settling of Long Beach. The lower half of the circular design also contains a depiction of the fields from which the crops were harvested.

The circular design is bisected by a white stripe bearing the name and motto of the city: Long Beach - The Friendly City.

This flag was designed by Tyrus Cohan and was adopted by the Long Beach Board of Aldermen on Tuesday, 23 May 2003.
