Clarkston, known officially by the somewhat confusing name City of the Village of Clarkston, is a city located within Independence Charter Township in Oakland County in the U.S. state of Michigan. Clarkston is ideally situated as a
"bedroom community" in the northern Detroit suburbs. Located with easy access to I-75, Clarkston offers a direct route to downtown Detroit and other urban areas. The jurisdiction of the city government is limited to a relatively small
downtown area commonly referred to as "the village". Those living in the much larger surrounding area of Independence Township refer to themselves as living in Clarkston. Very few residents describe themselves as living in Independence Township. The township and city both use Clarkston as a mailing address, and are served by Clarkston Community Schools. The City of the Village of Clarkston has 962 inhabitants on area of 1.3 sq. km.
The flag is shown on Clarkston Historical Society website: www.clarkstonhistorical.org/merchandise.htm.
