"...Elihu Burritt, one of New Britain's most famous early residents coined a phrase in Latin, which when translated into English means, industry fills the hive and enjoys the honey. This motto was a reference to the large amount of manufacturing companies that helped New Britain become known as the hardware city . . . If you look closely at our city seal, you will see [our] motto as well as a picture of a beehive with seven bees flying around it. Now, legend has it that these seven bees were a tribute to the seven largest factories at the time the city seal was created." (Source)
