The pilot flag is rectangular, horizontally divided white-red, with a yellow fouled anchor in the middle.

The anchor is prescribed in Flaggenbuch to be 1/2 the hoist high and 1/3 the hoist width.

Flaggenbuch (1926) [d9e26] shows a white flag with a thick red border, in apparent proportion 5:7. Earlier sources showing this flag are National Geographic (1917) [gmc17] & Webster's New International Dictionary (ca. 1924) [w6h24].
