The municipality of Kemah (6,905 inhabitants in 2012, 2,434 in the town proper; 22,980 ha) is located 50 km west of Erzincan, on the left bank of river Euphrates.

The flag of Kemah is white with the municipality's emblem. "Belediyesi" means "Municipality".
The emblem of the municipality features the bridge over the Euphrates and the claimed tomb of Sultan Melik (photo).

The tomb, popularly known as Sultan Melik, is located in the cemetery just on the outskirts of Kemah and is attributed, based on circumstantial evidence, to the patronage of Bahramsah's son Saljüqshah and dated to the 1190s. It was fashioned entirely in the Iranian tradition of brick architecture with an overt structural connections to such Azerbaijani tombs as Mu'mina Khatun in Nakhchivan dated 1186-1187 and Gunbad-i-Kabud in Maragha dated 1196-1997. Sultan Melik, however, is a more modest rendition, employing embedded glazed bowls on its portal instead of glazed bricks and tiles, which were perhaps not as readily available in Kemah at this time as they were in Azerbaijan.
