Dolná Strehová (in Hungarian Alsósztregova) has 946 inhabitants(only
Slovaks; 1990 census) The village was a Slovakian-Hungarian settlement
in the Gács (in Slovakian: Halíč) district of Nógrád (in Slovakian: Novohrad)
County of the Kingdom of Hungary to 1919/1920 (Declaration of Martin /
Treaty of Trianon). 1920-1938 part of Czechoslovakia, 1939-1945 part of
Slovakia, and 1945-1992 part of Czechoslovakia. The village is the birthplace
of the famous Hungarian writer Imre Madách (1823-1864), Hungarian poet
János Rimay (1570-1631), Slovak writer, teacher Ján Severiny (1716-1789).
