Nyköping has 27.000 inhabitants and is the capital city of Södermänland county. On Ralf Hartemink's site, you can read:
The arms were granted on April 6, 1945. Nyköping was one of Sweden's most important cities in the Middle Ages. The oldest seal of the city dates from 1359 and the arms are based on this seal. The arms thus have not really changed since.
The flag of the commune of Nyköping, dark blue with the logo (arms and the
word Nyköping) on the lower part. I've seen too a vertical version of it.
