A country in southern Siberia (Kemerovo Oblast' of RF) where the Altay and the Sayan mountain ranges converge and where the the rivers Mras Su and Kondoma flow in the Tom Valley. The region of Gornaya Shorya is famous for its skiing and snowboarding championship courses in the elevations reaching 2,100 m and snow cover from November to March. The Shors are a Turkic nation with their own language, number about 16,600 (@ 13,000 in Shorya, rest in Khakassia and Altay Republic) and are the Orthodox Christians, although many are still supposedly following animism and shamanism. The Shors are sometimes called "the Blacksmithing Tatars". Capital of the Shors is located in the town of Tashtagol.
In December of 2005, there was a competition in Tashtagol to create a national flag, a national emblem and a national anthem of Shorya. The winner of the competition for the flag was the 9th grade student of the School #9 in Tashtagol, Klavdia Vladimirovna Iptesheva. She describes her design as follows:
My rendition of the flag is very crude, so if someone cares among
our talented giffers it would be nice if they could draw a better
image.
The photograph of the winning design would be gladly provided.
Unfortunately, the emblem on it is not readable enough, but the
flag is.
