Soponata, Sociedade Portuguesa de Navios Tanque
(Portuguese Tanker Ships Society), was established in 1947. It was, for many
years, one of the biggest portuguese shipping companies. However, in 2004 it
was sold to General Maritime by its owners, the Mello Group, who said that it
wasn’t profit… Nowadays, GenMar still employ portuguese officers.
