About the flag

The National Institute for Civil Aviation of Portugal (Instituto Nacional da Aviação Civil, I.P.) is a government run organization in charge of all civil aviation matters. It was rechartered from a previously existing cabinet section named Direcção Geral da Aviação Civil, created on 15 May 1998 (basically, the new structure allows for better jobs for cronies), and its current logo is a modernized version of the latter's, which shows a Christ Knights' Order cross (a recurrent symbol of Portugaldom fitted with bird's wings. Its flag, flown at its HQ in the Lisboa airport and possibly at other locations, shows however the previous logo, with detailed wing feathers and correct cross (voided), on a white flag - the wings in gold and the cross in its usual red.
INAC, I.P. is monitoring all aspects of civil aviation within the Portuguese territory and all its dependencies. The INAC, I.P. was created on 27 April 2007 to succeed the former National Institute of Civil Aviation. The body is organised into a Directorate Council -which is in turn sub-divided into five Directorates and three Cabinets-, a Consultant Council, and a Finance Council. It has its headquarters in Lisbon Portela Airport.
