A typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a quarterly (town status) red and blue background.

The coat of arms is sable an inescutcheon gules charged with a golden lion flanked in fess by two inescutcheons argent charged each with a orbicular cross purpure and in pale by two hexagrams or. Mural crown argent with four visible towers town rank and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "VIANA DO ALENTEJO".

Meaning:
The stars of David, hexagrams, may refer to a Jewish influence and the orbicular crosses (blazoned in the law as patty) to the Templars, but I really dont know nothing specific about these arms. The flag background uses two tinctures (instead of one tincture and one metal), which contradicts the law but is not really veyr unusual.
