It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field gyronny of eight of white and green.

Shield mantled, above dexter red a gridiron Or, above sinister Sable three grain ears Or tied Vert, over all issuant from chief a lower demi-cogwheel Argent, in base Azure charged with two bars wavy Argent. Mural crown Argent with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "CIDADE DE ERMESINDE". Please note that the arms in the communal webpage display the inscription "FREGUESIA DE ERMESINDE".

Ermesinde Commune is one of the four communes of Valongo Municipality; it had 38 798 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 7.7 km².
