It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow background (commune rank) .

The arms are Azure a depiction of Saint George Proper armoured Argent mantled Gules nimbed Or, riding a horse Argent saddled, bridled and mantled Gules, St. George slaying by a spear Argent a dragon Or armed, langued and eyed Gules. Mural crown argent with three visible towers (commune rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "SÃO JORGE - SANTANA".
Meaning:
São Jorge is Saint George and refers to the conterminous Catholic parish patron and name. The arms are canting, showing the saint as usual.

São Jorge Commune is one of the 6 communes of Santana Municipality (q.v.); it had 1610 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 18,30 km².
