Shield Argent with base wavy of Azure and Argent, two eradicated pine trees Vert fruited Sable, in chief a frying pan Sable charged with six bezants ordered 3:3. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "FREGUESIA DA SERTÃ".
Meaning:
The rectangular frying pan (Port.: sertã) is a canting element and can also be found in the municipal arms. It refers to a legend. Acc. to the legend the settlement was founded in 74 BC by Quintus Sertorius, leader of the Celtic tribe of the Lusitanians. During a Roman attack the commander of the castle had been killed, but the Roman invaders were ejected by the courage of his consort Celinda, who poured a pan filled with hot oil over their heads.
