According to Sérgio Horta it is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of white and blue.

On a blue field, 5 silver waves charged with a blue shield with 4 gold 8-point stars on each canton, charged with a silver shield with a blue cross, 4 silver tower mural crown (town rank)and a white scroll with the words in black "RESENDE" or, on the former flag "VILA DE RESENDE".
