It is a fairly typical Portuguese municipal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a gyronny (meaning city rank) of yellow and black field.

Shield Or, a 5-arched bridge Argent, masoned Sable, over a base wavy of Azure and Argent, in chief two cork oaks Vert fruited Or. Mural crown Argent with five visible towers (city rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "PONTE DE SOR".
Meaning:
"Ponte de" means "bridge of", which is depicted on the coat of arms; Sor is the local river, a tributary of the Tejo, represented by the base wavy.

Plain (monocoloured) Portuguese subnational flags are not allowed to have variations without arms: plain flags always carry the coat of arms.

Ponte de Sor municipality had 17 620 inhabitants in 1990, and it is divided in 6 communes, covering 839 km². It belongs to the Portalegre District and to the old province of Ribatejo.
