It is a fairly untypical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain white field.

Shield Or divided per pall Argent fimbriated Sable, in base a pine eradicated Vert fruited Gules at both sides of the pall. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials:"VILA DE PINHAL NOVO".
Meaning:
The pines are canting elements, and the pall probably is symbolising an important railway junction in the commune.

Meaning:
The pine is a canting element. The treck is symbolising an important railway junction in the commune.

Pinhal Novo is one of the four communes of the Palmela municipality; it had 25 003 inhabitants - most within the municipality - in 2011 and covers 55,8 km².
