It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Shield Vert with base wavy of Argent and Azure, a royal crown Proper flanked by two trees eradicated Or fruited Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "REAL - PENALVA DO CASTELO".
Meaning:
"Real" means "royal", the royal crown thus is a canting element.

Real Commune is one of the 11 communes of the Penalva do Castelo municipality (q.v.); it had 263 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 4.8 km².
