It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain purple background (village rank).

The arms are Or a cross fleury Vert and in chief a mitre Purpure emphasized Argent and in base two olive branches Vert fruited Sable. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "GRANJA - MOURÃO".
Meaning:
While ""granja_" means "pen" or "sty", the arms refer to the Avis Order and to local religious and agrarian features.

Granja Commune is one of the three communes of the Mourão Municipality (q.v.). This commune had 747 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 92,47 km².
