It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of white and purple.

Santo Varão Commune is one of the 11 communes of the Montemor-o-Velho municipality (q.v.); it had 1969 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 11.9 km².
