It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of blue and yellow.

Shield Azure, a Celtic scythe's blade and a Roman sword both Argent crossed per saltire, in chief an eagle Or, in base a vine leaf Vert fimbriated Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials: "BUCELAS"
Meaning:
The scythe is symbolizing the oldest civilization of the area and the sword the Roman conquerors. The eagle is symbolizing the demand for progress. The leaf is symbolizing viticulture, the main local business line.
