It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

Shield Vert with base wavy of Argent and Azure, a billet Argent, flanked by two melons Or, in chief two grapevines Or in fess leaved Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll with inscription in black capitals "GONÇA".
Meaning:
The green colour is representing the natural landscape of the commune. The grapevines are representing the high quality "green vine" produced in Gonça and in the whole Minho region as well. The base wavy is representing the local riches of water, especially the Selho River. The melons are alluding to the pilgrimage of St. Matthew. The billet is representing the local stonemasonry based on granite.
