It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of red and yellow.

Shield barry wavy of Azure and Argent charged with a sailing boat Sable rigged Argent, chief Argent charged with a corn cob Or leaved Vert at dexter, a scallop Or in centre and a snail shell Gules at sinister. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll with inscription in black initials "SILVALDE".
Meaning:
The scallop is an attribute of St. James the Elder, the local patron saint. He had been in person in the former arms of the village and was replaced by his attribute, after the commune had been upgraded.

Silvalde Commune is one of the four communes of the Espinho municipality (q.v.); it had 6673 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 5.5 km².
