Campo Maior, which means "Larger Field" (as in battle field), is
a border municipality, often under spanish invasion or occupation.
The unusual scrolls refer to this. It has 8490 inhabitants in 247
km2 and belongs to the old province of
Alto Alentejo, to the region to be of
Alentejo and to the current
Portalegre District.
