It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a plain yellow field.

The arms are Azure a three-arch bridge Argent masoned Sable issuant from a base wavy of Argent and Azure, in chief two barrels Or garnished sable respectant. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "CAVEZ".
The official blazon uses an obsolete spelling (prefered: "Cavêz") and lacks to mention the wavy base and the scroll is reading "CAVÉZ".

Cavez Commune is one of the 12 communes of Cabeceiras de Basto Municipality (q.v.); it had 1599 inhabitants in 2001 and covers 26,08 km².
