Shield Or, a parchment scroll Argent garnishd Gules, in dexter chief a grape bunch Purpure leafed Vert, in sinister chief a chestnut twig Vert fruited Gules, in base a plough Azure garnished Argent. Mural crown Argent with three visible towers (village rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "BABE".
Meaning:
The parchment might stand for the Treaty of Babe, signed (around) here on 1387, by Dom João of Portugal and English nobleman John of Gaunt, 1st Duke of Lancaster, planning to join forces to defeat Juan I of Castile (which didn't work out well). For further information click here
