It is a typical Portuguese communal flag, with the coat of arms centred on a field quartered of yellow and blue.

The shield is Azure a bend sinister Sable masoned Argent between two hazel twigs Argent fruited Or. Mural crown Argent with four visible towers (town rank) and white scroll reading in black upper case letters "AVELÃS DE CAMINHO". Sérgio Horta's image, matching all renditions I could find, even the official communal website shows (indeed Sérgio Horta's image!) what seems to be black cobble stones on the silver/white bend instead of the expected reverse pattern.
Meaning:
The hazel twigs are canting elements, the toponym means "hazelnuts of the way ".The official communal website says that the said way is an ancient Roman highway,represented by the bend sinister, now Portuguese EN 1 (Lisboa-Porto); I suppose it is Via Lusitanorum from Felicitas Iulia (Lisboa) to Castra Legionis (Leon), thus the bend is another canting element.

Avelãs de Caminho Commune is one of the 10 communes of Anadia Municipality; it had 1252 inhabitants in 2011 and covers 6.5 km².
