This city of 58,124 inhabitants was founded in 1776. The green
and yellow colors are traditionally used in the town during
civil, sports and cultural activities. The stripe refers to the
valley ("vega" in Spanish -- a large fertile valley)
and the river.

The flag from
pueblos-de-puertorico.com (defunct) site has a broader green
diagonal than the one at lexjuris
site . The diagonal stands for the (Vega?) river. Vega Baja is in
north central Puerto Rico, 30 km west of San Juan; Nickname Melao
- Melao.

For some time there was a discussion about the true width of
the green diagonal band of the Vega Baja flag. Certainly it
is wider than the Previously Reported Flag. A
Vega Baja website at <www.vegabaja.com>
confirms this fact, and some friends and I have corroborated that
the following image accurately reflects the band width:
