This city of 35,369 inhabitants was founded in 1927. The flag
uses the colours and stripes ("franjas") of the CoA.
The white replaces the silver from the shield. The green
represents the colour of the coconut tree. palm leaves
surrounding the shield of Cataño. Visually speaking, this is
used to distinguish our flag from the Greek and Uruguayan ones.
The flag of Cataño was officially adopted by a resolution of the
Honorable Municipal Assembly of Cataño in an ordinary session
under the presidence of Hon. Alcalde Don José Alvarez Brunet on
September 5, 1974.

is west of San Juan.

Cataño - Its flag reproduces the colors and stripes of its
shield. It has the same nine horizontal stripes as the shield:
four blue stripes and five white stripes (substituting the silver
color). A white band traverses diagonally the drape in all its
extension, from the upper hoist to the lower fly. This band is
also divided in nine alternating horizontal stripes (their widths
equal to the other stripes), five green and four white. Green
represents the green color of the coconut palms that surrounded
the shield. At the same time, this green band was used to
distinguish our flag from the flags of Greece and Uruguay. The
flag was officially adopted by the City Council under the
incumbency of Hon. José Alvarez Brunet in 5 September 1974.
