Piekary Śląskie City, Śląskie Voivodship - German name: Deutsch Piekar.
Piekary Śląskie is a town in south Poland, situated in the Silesian Voivodship (since 1999, previously in the Katowice Voivodship from 1975). Piekary is a spiritual center of Upper Silesia, a Marian shrine which is a pilgrimage site for thousands of the faithful, and a mining town. It was the stage for patriotic Polish demonstrations and one of the centers of Silesian Uprisings and in 1922 was ceded to the Second Polish Republic by Germany as 86 % of the population voted for joining the re-established Polish state.
Area: 40 sq.km (15.4 sq.mi); Population: 59,494.

Arms and flag adopted on June 30, 2005 (resolution # XL/380/05).
"Arms: on the blue shield two male figures in local miner's uniforms with golden trimmings.
Between them a Marian Sanctuary in gold with black windows and gates.
The Arms prior to 2005 were showing only the miners holding hands on blue background.

Flag: a rectangle composed of three uneven horizontal bands in the proportions of 1/4:1/2:1/4 and colors: top - blue; middle - yellow; bottom - blue.
Ratio is 5:8
The ceremonial flag of the city is blue with the Arms placed in the center without the shield."
