First mentioned in 1221. The settlement was built next to the hunting
lodge (hence the tur's head and the axe in the Arms).
City rights granted in 1595 by King Zygmunt III Waza (Sigismund III
Vasa).
These rights taken away by the Russians in revenge for the town participation
in the January Uprising of 1863.
Famous hunters of Wiskitki included the kings: Władysław Jagiełło (Ladislaus Jagiellonian), Jan Olbracht (John I Albrecht), Zygmunt August (Sigismund II Augustus).
Arms and flag adopted on October 22, 2004 (resolution # 44/XIX/04).
"Arms: on a red shield, inside a wreath of golden palm branches and
beneath an open crown, the head of a tur (aurochs) in black and
a silver axe with golden handle.
Flag: a rectangle of the red color in the ratio 5:8 with the main charge
from the Coat of Arms in the center."
