Gmina Dobroszyce is a rural gmina (commune) in Oleśnica County, Lower
Silesian Voivodship,
in south-western Poland. Its seat is the village of Dobroszyce, which
lies approximately 8 kilometres
(5 mi) north-west of Oleśnica, and 26 kilometres (16 mi) north-east of
the regional capital Wrocław.
Area: 131.74 sq.km (50.9 sq.mi)
Population: 6,071 (2006)
German name: Juliusburg
First mentioned in 1405 as belonging to the Crown of Saint Wenceslas (Bohemia)
- In 1655, the locality was acquired by Silvius Nimrod von Würtemberg-Oels,
Prince
of the Duchy of Oels (Księstwo Oleśnickie - Herzogtum Oels - Ducatus
Olsnensis)
- 1663 - city rights
- 1676 - renamed Juliusburg and received a CoA, which, since 2003, once
again represents the commune.
- 1742 - end of Bohemian overlordship and beginning of the Prussian rule.
- 1792 - expiration of local Würtemberg dynasty - Duchy of Oels taken by
the Braunschweigs.
- 1884 - part of Duchy of Oels (with Juliusburg) goes to Friedrich
August von Wettin, future king of Saxony,
whose descendants own Juliusburg until 1945.
- 1945 - transferred to Poland in accordance with Potsdam Agreement.
For a short time the place was called Julianowo, ultimately changing
its name to Dobroszyce.
Soccer (football) team: Klub Piłkarski "Dąb" Dobroszyce
New Arms and flag were adopted on May 6, 2003.
Designed by Mr.Michal Kozuchowski and based on the original CoA of 1676.
NB: it isn't made clear anywhere, but I do believe there is a plain
yellow and red horizontal flag
used as a civic one, and another, with the CoA as the ceremonial (official)
one.
