image by Ivan Sache, 10 January 2021The establishment of the Colegio de Ingenieros del Perú (CIP - Peru
Engineers' Professional College) was proposed during the 1st National
Engineering Conference, which was organized in 1932 by the Sociedad de
Ingenieros del Perú (Peru Engineers' Society). It took, however, another 30
years until the establishment of the college, which is prescribed by Law No.
14,086 promulgated on 8 January 1962.
The college's Statutes were
dramatically modernized in 1986, allowing decentralization and the establishment
of autonomous chapters at the local (departments) level. This prompted the
abrogation of the founding law, which was substituted by Law No. 24,648 adopted
on 20 January 1987 by the Congress.
The CIP is now composed of a National
Council and 28 Departmental Councils.

The symbols of the CIP are
prescribed in Title 1 of the guild's Statutes, as follows.
Article 2.05.
Emblem.
The emblem of the Colegio de Ingenieros del Perú is composed of a red
disc, bordered by a stylized cogwheel outlined in golden yellow and formed of 12
trapezoidal black cogs. In the center, a black triangle is charged with the
acronym "CIP" in golden yellow letters. The triangle is surrounded by the
writing "COLEGIO DE INGENIEROS DEL PERÚ – 1962", in white letters. The emblem
is duly patented and registered with INDECOPI [Instituto Nacional de Defensa de
la Competencia y de la Protección de la Propiedad Intelectual - National
Institute of Defence of Competency and Protection of Intellectual Property].
Article 2.07. Flag.
The flag of the CIP is red with the emblem of the CIP
in the center.
