The District municipality of Codo del Pozuzo (6,238 inhabitants in 2005;
3,328 sq. km), part of the Province of Puerto Inca, Department of Huánuco, was
founded on19 March 1984 by Presidential Decree No. 1008-02. The name of the
district recalls that the first settlement was built in a curve ("codo") of
river Pozuzo.

The history of the colonization of Codo del Pozuzo is not clearly described
on the source website, where the colonists are sometimes named
"Germano-Austrians".

The flag of Codo del Pozuzo is green, with a vertical stripe in the Peruvian
colour placed near the hoist over an horizontal stripe with the German colours
placed near the bottom of the flag, and a native crown with three feathers
placed near the intersection of the two stripes.
Green represents the virgin forest covering most of the municipal territory, as
well as the aspiration of the colonists who founded the settlement.
The "Cross of Flags" symbolizes the integration of the German colonists who
founded the settlement with the local Peruvian inhabitants.
The "Native Crown" symbolizes the native peoples (Cashivos and Catataybos), the
beauty of the local fauna - represented by the feathers -, and of the forest
flora ("prenda").
