Hamilton (Māori: Kirikiriroa) is the seat and most populous city of the
Waikato region. With a territorial population of 178,500, it is the fourth
most-populous city in New Zealand.
About the coat of arms of Hamilton:

The arms were adopted in 1946 in a competition launched by the city
council.
The shield design represents the ebb and flow of the Waikato river
that runs through the city, the oxen symbolises the green pastures and the
role of the city as a centre of agriculture.
The crown symbolises
Hamilton's beginnings as a military post in the 19th century.
Two pukeko, a
common bird in the low lying country around the city, support the crest.
