Sunnfjord Municipality was created on 1 January
2020 by the merger of Førde Municipality, Gaular Municipality, Jølster
Municipality and Naustdal Municipality.

Blazon: På grøn grunn ein sølv stolpe laga med taggesnitt. In English: Vert a
pile argent engrailed.
Approved by the royal resolution of 24 April 1992, after a drawing by Even
Skoglund after the original idea by Margrete Hareide from Bygstad. (cf.

The design symbolises the Gaula River with its many waterfalls flowing through
an agricultural municipality.
