Approved on 4 May 1979.
Lindås municipality was situated in Hordaland county.
The municipality of Lindås based its arms and flag on the tree that gave the community its name,
the European linden tree (tilia europaea). However, the tree is not common in the area.
On the flag the tree is in white set against a field of red. Approval was granted 4 May 1979,
and the designer was Magnus Hardeland. The proportions for the flag are given as 218 cm by 300 cm,
probably reflecting the measures of the one hoisted.

The community takes its name after the linden tree. The second part of the name – 'ås' – means 'ridge'.
