Approved on 27 April 1990.
Samnanger municipality lies in Hordaland county.
As a symbol of the wet climate and the source of hydroelectricity, Samnanger
chose a circle of yellow drops on a field of red as the design for its flag.
The designer of the arms and flag was Even Jarl Skoglund. Approval for the
design was given by Royal resolution of 27 April 1990. The proportions of the
Norwegian flag, 8:11, are also used for the flag flown by the municipality of Samnanger.

The above page explain the drops becaume the municipality holds the rainfall
record in Hordaland. Also water power is an important resource for the
municipality and the drops may symbolize that the water has worth of gold.
The municipal
web site explains the symbolic also through water - that it had major role
in the development of Samnanger: starting with the Scotland trade in the 17th
century, the wool factory A/S Samnanger Uldvarefabrik from 1886 until fire in
March 1931, the hydro-power development in Samnanger waterway from 1910 onwards
and the stocking factory A/S SAFA founded in 1941.
