The design symbolizes the oldest and the only preserved medieval monastery in
Norway, Utstein. It was originally an Augustinian monastery, its abbot having a
crozier as its symbol. Since Basel, Switzerland already had a crozier, Rennesøy
chose design with two of them. See also
