Blazon: I grønt en oppvoksende sølv bjørkekvist med tre blader. Vert a birch
branch with three leaves argent issuant from the base.
Approved by the royal resolution of 5 December 1986 after a drawing by Daniel
Rike from a proposal by Knut Øvensen. [c2j87]
The design is canting he municipal name having the root from birch (bétula
pubéscens, it is said at
http://oddso.nvg.org/nlv/0928.html). The design also cants the name of the
administrative centre Birkeland. Three leaves stand for the three previous
municipalities of Birkenes, Herefoss and Vegusdal.
